Comparing the NBN to how America acquires their internet connections.
The NBN and the America broadband plan are fairly comparable as they have similar goals. In comparison they both want to improve health, businesses, environment and the advancement of technology. The difference is that the U.S internet connection is unsuccessful as the services are limited. Fewer than 8% of households have fibre service; approximately 30% of the country is not connected to the internet at all, even in the small towns. As opposed to Australia, the
NBN aims to connect 93% of homes and businesses to fibre.
Pros
The National Broadband Network will benefit Australians such as health, distance learning and education, access to internet entertainment and learning materials and economic development. The NBN will also give us a competitive advantage against other less-connected nations and provide the latest technology to all Australians at an affordable cost. Replacing copper with fibre brings wide-reaching benefits and huge efficiencies to existing infrastructures.
Cons
The application of the NBN may result in replacing old networks that could cause interference and the potential of asbestos exposure. There is also a chance of an increase in bullying mainly through Facebook and other social network.
